Mikumi National Park is located in southern Tanzania, about 5 to 6 hours by road from Dar es Salaam. The park forms part of Tanzania’s Southern Safari Circuit and lies near the Udzungwa Mountains.
The landscape of Mikumi includes open savannah plains, woodlands, and waterholes that attract many animals throughout the year. The open plains make it easy to spot wildlife, which is why Mikumi is often compared to the famous Serengeti.
Visitors to the park can see elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, and many types of antelope. Mikumi is also home to hippos that can be seen in the park’s hippo pools.
The park is also a great place for bird watching with more than 400 bird species recorded. Because of its beautiful scenery and rich wildlife, Mikumi is a perfect destination for nature lovers and first-time safari visitors.
